Information for sources:
Hi there! My work depends on people willing to speak up about what you’re experiencing or seeing, and I want you to you feel comfortable with the process. Here’s some information that may help:
Decide whether you want to speak on the record (meaning I can use your name and quotes) off the record (without your name and quotes) or on background (anonymously.)
Whenever I can, I record my interviews to make sure that I am getting everything right. This is just for my own notes. Please let me know if you would prefer that I don’t do this.
I always try to verify information via multiple sources, whether it’s another person or written documentation. If you have documents or screenshots, this is very helpful for me to see, and you can decide whether you’re comfortable with my quoting from or publishing the document itself.
Unfortunately, I cannot share the completed story with you before publication. Doing so would violate journalistic ethics intended to insure that our reporting is impartial and not influenced by outside sources. That said, I am always happy to talk through any specific concerns that you have.
